Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin – August 19th, 2012 – Conquest Endurance took its second win of the year in a dominant performance this weekend at the Road America Road Race Showcase, the seventh round of the 2012 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron. After starting from the pole position, drivers Martin Plowman and David Heinemeier Hansson went on to lead the most laps and managed to get back into the P2 championship hunt by taking the victory over the Level 5 Motorsports team. The #37 Morgan-Nissan car finished two laps ahead of its nearest competitor and completed a total of 101 laps around the 4.045-mile Road America circuit.

Heinemeier Hansson took the green flag in the #37 Conquest machine and after some daring moves in traffic managed to pull away from the rest of the field. The Danish driver led for the majority of his two stints and handed the car over to teammate Plowman on lap 46 after driving for 1h45min.

After the pit stop Plowman came out third and immediately started reeling in the leaders and on Lap 65 he became the overall leader of the race, ahead of the usually faster P1 cars. After a lengthy yellow the team decided to make its last pit stop at the 3h14min mark and opted to change tires to give Plowman the necessary tools in case he needed to have a late race fight, but at the same time the lost time forced them to give up the lead. The gamble paid off as Plowman was able to quickly chase down the leaders and pass them, once he was out in front he never looked back and went on to take the team’s second victory in their rookie ALMS season.

The strong result gives the Conquest team and drivers renewed hope for their championship hunt as they have now cut down their gap to the leaders to only five points with three races to go in the 2012 season. The team will be back on track in only two weeks during the Baltimore Sports Car Challenge presented by SRT where they will be looking for their third victory of the year and will have the possibility to take over the points lead.

“This win is really special, it was an amazing weekend for us. I want to thank Thierry Bouvet our engineer who gave us an amazing car from the get-go, we really just had to fine tune it all weekend. As usual the Level 5 guys were extremely tough, they were really on it today, so for us to beat them when they are this strong just shows the great job that everybody at Conquest has done.

As a team we are working very well together, every race we just get better and better. This was the first completely clean race for us where neither David nor I got a penalty and everything just went our way. If we can do what we did this weekend for the next three races we should be able to win the championship which is our main goal.”

“It feels great when you have a car that is strong all weekend. We led almost all the laps of the race and although it was a bit more exciting that we would’ve wanted with all the yellows, we knew we had the faster car and that always makes it easier. What’s great is that we are back in the championship hunt and we’ve proven that we can always fight for the wins, so now its just a matter of staying focused and keep winning races so we can take the championship.”

Eric Bachelart

Team Principal, Conquest Endurance

“It is definitely good to see that we keep on progressing every weekend. The first win gave us some confidence and now with the second one we know that we can do this every weekend. Now we just want to win some more and fight for the championship which is now a very realistic goal. Its been a nice progression from the first race of the season, the team is working very well together, the drivers are doing a good job, we have good engineering and it’s just an overall strong team effort.”
